Introduction

MCD is a free extension for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (available at Microsoft AppSource).

MCD is just a small example of what a cross-company page could look like. It is intended to show what is possible in Business Central and serve as a suggestion as to what can be done, e.g. for controlling, simpler operability and faster configuration for several companies at the same time.

What MCD can do
  • Overview of all companies All companies in the system are listed and can be filtered. Companies for which the user does not have the required permissions are displayed in red. The other columns come from the list 'Companies' ('Display name') and the 'Company Information' page ('Company Badge' and 'Company Badge Text').
  • Easy change of company Via a menu entry as well as via a link behind 'Display Name' you can go directly to the 'Company Information' page of a selected company. You do not need to change the company yourself and then navigate to 'Company Information'.
  • Easy input at a central point Select a cell in the list and directly change a value for the respective company - here as an example 'Company Badge' and 'Company Badge Text' (both fields from 'Company Information').
  • Quick entry of identical data in several companies Select several companies for which you want to apply the same color for the company badge. Then select a new color ID at the top and change the value for all selected companies using the corresponding menu item. For better control, the user receives a dialog box with the new value and the number of companies he/she has selected.

Further ideas for cross-company pages

Cross-company pages usually have to be programmed to suit your needs. Pragmatic and helpful solutions can be created very quickly, also complex and very convenient solutions are possible. In addition to fields from tables or pages, values from tiles or FlowFields can also be integrated or reports can be attach.

Another major advantage is that users can be provided with links and menu items, allowing them to switch not only to the required company, but also to the point inside the other company required in that context. This can help to increase user acceptance and possibly even save working time. A small saved click alone may not make much difference, but if this is saved often or by a large number of users during the day, it does.

  • Invoice settlement Have cross-company lists created so that you can quickly find open invoices and switch more easily to the positions required for processing in the respective company.
  • Tax assessments Centrally identify the companies in which tax assessments still need to be processed and who has been assigned as the person responsible in your system.
  • Checking on job queues Check the status of important job queues across all companies and restart them if necessary.
  • Configuration With a corresponding page, configurations in several companies can be adjusted centrally, quickly and easily. Values that have to be entered identically in X companies can be entered in one place and transferred to selected companies without errors.
